Learning to fly a drone is no different then learning to drive or conduct an orchestra. They both require training and experience. The more you have of both the better your chances of being good at what you do.
Drones are no different. Just because we have one, doesn’t mean we are good pilots. Just because we can drive the car, doesn’t make us good drivers. Just because we can play the guitar, doesn’t mean we can play the piano.

Flying a drone is an acquired skill like so many other tasks. As new pilots and or parents of new pilots the same thought process should be instilled. We are not going to learn how to drive the family car by practicing in a dump truck.
There are many steps one can take to learn to fly properly and safely. With drones being ever so popular, they come with no ‘warning’ to new flyers or parents of. The news media has done a very good job at emphasizing the problems without a means to solving it.
Proper education and training, like the car, are what need to be inserted into the equation. Let’s reverse the negative astigmatism by proper education and training.
At DSS we offer a complete solution to accomplishing this. We start with making sure the new pilot, trainee, understands that basics of the Part 107 Rules and Regulations. We like to follow this with learning and practicing to fly on a simulator. This eliminates any chance of damage to property and/or equipment. Once the trainee has demonstrated proper technique and skill that we move outdoors and train. Here we demonstrate particular skills and observe and help the new pilot do the same. We do this at the City’s Christopher Columbus Air-park. This is an ideal location as it is very open and is permitted by the City of Tucson.
An older man walking the streets of New York ask a lady sitting on the bench how to get to Carnegie Hall. Her answer was practice, practice, practice.
