Flying in Tucson Parks

The City of Tucson, Parks & Recs, states that the use of Drones (UAV’s), in All City Parks, except for the Model Airplane area of Columbus Park, is Prohibited. How and why the City is permitted to do this will be the topic of future post, in the meantime, it is all legit and is the law. Whether the City designates more space, or, further limits what is available will depend on us. UAV pilots and  hobbyists alike on how we cooperate and build a good relationship .

Where can I FlyScreenshot of Parks & Recs Code

This area is located at the North end of the park (where you enter from Silverbell). There are 3 ‘Flying Circles’ and the city has deemed the northern most circle for UAV use. We will have additional posts on this topic.

The southern 2 circles are designated for the use of Tethered aircraft (Non RC). Please, if there are any individuals flying at these locations, please avoid their airspace. If you have any questions regarding this, please contact us before you call the City or Parks and Rec’s department. We have met and discussed this with them. This is the arrangement we agreed upon. We, us at DSS, are simply a voice for UAV pilots who wanted to better understand the City’s policy for the Model Airfield area. And to do our best to pass this information along to prevent issues at the park as to who, what and when.  Your cooperation in this matter will go a long way in improving the ‘UAV’ status with the City and forthcoming improvements to the assigned area.
